“The students find it easier to do things right from the beginning, which is much better than having to make changes further down the line.”
The International University of Rioja operates in a completely virtual environment and relies on innovative technology and live online classes to engage its 24,000-plus graduate students from 79 countries. Aurora, who teaches business and management, directs research degrees, and is principal investigator in research projects, says Turnitin is one of the tools that is fundamental to her students’ success.
“Most students have not done studies on how to do research, and they do not have time to thoroughly look at how to do academic work,” says Aurora, who uses the tool from day one to teach students how to properly conduct and annotate research. She says the students like Turnitin because it helps them work with academic rigor and meet international objective standards. Meeting these standards can help them get published, a prime motivator and currency in academia.
In addition to checking work against Turnitin’s database, Aurora says they use the peer review features to help each other revise until they feel their work is journal-ready.
“Turnitin does not let any detail go unnoticed,” says Aurora. “The students find it easier to do things right from the beginning, which is much better than having to make changes further down the line.”
As for results, she says these can be award-winning in some cases.
